Moving to assisted living in Charlotte, one step at a time

Many families call us after a fall, a hospital stay, or months of covering care themselves. Our owners cared for their own loved ones before they opened House of Peace, so they know the questions that come with that first call. Whether you are planning ahead or need a room soon, we walk your family through each step, from the first phone call to the weeks after move-in.

One phone call can answer most of your first questions.

Is House of Peace the right fit?

House of Peace is a good fit for older adults who

  • Walk on their own or with a cane or walker
  • Need help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing or grooming
  • Need help managing medications or daily reminders
  • Would do well in a small household of six residents or fewer

House of Peace is not the right setting for someone who

  • Uses a wheelchair full time
  • Needs bed-level or skilled nursing care
  • Needs a secured setting for advanced memory loss

Every person’s needs are different, and the right setting is not always clear at first. Give us a call, and we will talk through your loved one’s needs with you before you plan a visit. 704-387-5639

How admissions works

Step 1 · Talk with us

Let’s talk about your loved one

Every person who moves in has their own health history, habits and routines. In your first conversation, we ask about:

  • Current health concerns
  • Help needed with daily tasks
  • How they walk and get around, and any safety concerns
  • Medications and how they are managed now
  • Social life and what a good day looks like for them
  • Your family’s concerns and goals

The goal of this conversation is to learn whether House of Peace fits your loved one before anyone makes a decision.

What families can expect
  • Straight answers to your questions
  • No pressure to decide on the call
  • Clear guidance on what comes next
Step 2 · Take a tour

See House of Peace for yourself

Photos show the rooms. A visit shows how the home runs day to day, and how a six-resident household compares with larger communities you may be touring. On your tour, you can:

  • Walk through the great room, resident rooms, front porch and garden path
  • Meet the owners and the Resident Ambassadors
  • Learn about daily routines and activities
  • Ask about care, current rates and what the monthly rate includes

Tours are available every day from 10 AM to 4 PM, and other times are available by appointment.

Step 3 · Care plan

A care plan written for your loved one

After the personal assessment, we write a care plan around your loved one’s health needs, preferences and daily routine. A care plan may include:

  • Help with bathing, dressing and grooming
  • Medication management
  • Mobility support
  • Help at mealtimes
  • Health monitoring and coordination with their doctors
  • Activities and time with other residents

The plan gives your loved one the help they need while leaving room to keep doing what they can on their own.

Step 4 · Move in

Move in with a plan

Moving a parent or spouse brings a lot of paperwork and planning. Our team helps coordinate each piece. Before move-in, we help with:

  • Required medical documents
  • Physician forms and the assessment
  • Medication coordination
  • Equipment planning
  • Scheduling move-in day
  • Getting the room ready
Making the room their own
  • Family photos
  • A favorite blanket or quilt
  • Artwork and keepsakes
  • A favorite chair or small piece of furniture

Each room comes furnished with a bed, dresser, mirror, nightstand, lamp and chair. Familiar things from home can make the first weeks easier for many residents.

Move-in day

A calm first day, at your loved one’s pace

Resident Ambassadors are ready when your loved one arrives. On the first day, we help with:

  • Settling into their room
  • A walk through the home
  • Meeting the Resident Ambassadors
  • Meeting the other residents
  • Starting a daily routine

We take the first day slowly, so your loved one has time to get comfortable in the home.

Family updates

A Resident Ambassador calls you when something changes, and you can reach the care team directly with questions.

Daily wellness checks

Resident Ambassadors watch for:

  • Changes in health
  • Comfort and sleep
  • How medications seem to be working
  • Appetite and nutrition
  • Overall wellbeing

Care plan reviews

We review each care plan regularly and update it as needs change. If needs grow beyond what a family care home can provide, we help your family plan the next step.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can my loved one move in?

Move-in at House of Peace can happen as soon as a room is open, the personal assessment is done and the physician forms are complete. Families coming from a hospital or rehab stay can start the paperwork right away. Call us to ask about current openings.

Is someone awake at night?

Yes. The House of Peace care team covers three shifts, so a Resident Ambassador is awake and in the home day and night.

Do doctors come to the home?

Yes. Primary care providers from Equity Health Partners visit residents at House of Peace. Therapy services come through local providers, and House of Peace has a longstanding preferred relationship with VIA Health Partners, our hospice partner.

What level of care does House of Peace provide?

House of Peace provides help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and grooming, along with medication management, mobility support and care coordination with each resident’s doctors.

What if my parent doesn’t want to move?

Resistance to moving is common, and House of Peace never pressures a parent into the decision. Many older adults worry about losing independence, privacy or familiar routines, so we answer their questions directly and invite them to visit the home at their own pace. Families can also call on their own first to talk through concerns and options.

Who is House of Peace not the right fit for?

House of Peace is not the right setting for someone who uses a wheelchair full time, needs bed-level or skilled nursing care, or needs a secured setting for advanced memory loss.

When can family visit?

Visiting hours at House of Peace are 10 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Sunday. Additional evening visits are encouraged by appointment. Families are always welcome, and we encourage regular time together.

What happens if my loved one’s needs change?

House of Peace reviews each care plan regularly and updates it as needs change. If needs grow beyond what a family care home can provide, we help your family plan the next step.

How does payment work?

House of Peace is a private-pay assisted living home. One monthly rate covers care, meals, housekeeping and laundry, and we share current rates by phone or during a tour. We do not bill long-term care insurance or veterans benefits directly. Families who have eligible long-term care insurance coverage or veterans benefits may qualify for reimbursement, depending on their individual policy or benefit requirements, and our team can help with the paperwork needed to submit a reimbursement request. Reimbursement is determined by the insurance provider or benefits program and is not guaranteed.
